PRETORIA – The Presidency on Monday released a statement on the Condition of former president Nelson Mandela who was admitted to hospital over the weekend.
“President Nelson Mandela had a good night’s rest,” presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
Maharaj said that doctors would still be conducting further tests on Monday, but that he was in good hands.  
He thanked members of the public for their messages of support to the Madiba family as well as the media for respecting Mandela himself during his stay at a Pretoria hospital.  
“We thank the media and the public for affording him, his family and the medical team the necessary privacy and space.” Maharaj said.  
He continued by stating that Monday was a special day for Mandela as it marked the anniversary of his Nobel Peace Prize presentation ,which was awarded to him on 10 December 1993.
